12/3 Update - End of Year and what's ahead

Hello everyone, are you doing ok?

It’s been a month since our last dinner, UFO sighting, and the first big snow. Before more time goes by we’d like to say thank you to our Dora’s-in-a-Box creator.

Marjory Sweet is a talented cook and a seasoned farmer with an admirable vision on how to prepare fresh produce. She has created, for the past 2 years, beautiful meals straight from the fields of Owl Peak Farm at Dora’s. With her support, we were able to gracefully transition from an indoor/outdoor dinner venue to ensuring a covid-safe experience where farm guests could take their food to-go and picnic around the farm. We thank Marjory for the tremendous effort in her collaboration with the farm and wish her great success going forward. She is planning some wonderful things, and, will be back at Dora’s with special events.

Read her Q&A in CapBeauty’s series Behind Closed Doors on her food philosophy, her favorite ingredients, and her cookbook.

For the past year, the farm has been considering whether or not to begin processing our grain; it’s a difficult decision involving some serious machinery. Working together with the Southwest Grain Collective, the tasks are becoming less overwhelming. And, after spending time in California with James McKenna of Pelican Bread and Mendocino Grain Project, we are encouraged and ready to move forward. We’ve been testing our grain and equipment in making delicious test recipes with the resulting masa and flours.

We are excited to announce that in the new year, we will begin to offer small quantities of Sonora White Wheat milled to-order, as well as, sell some soothing winter stews and soups for online ordering. The Sala at Dora’a on Hwy 111 will serve as a convenient drive-thru pickup for products from the farm. More details coming soon!

It’s quiet time for a while. See you in the new year, 2021.
